Everything you need before your appointment, plus information sheets to read online or download.
Getting a referral
You'll need a referral from your GP or another specialist to claim a Medicare rebate. Ask them to address it to the doctor you'd like to see.
- Dr Shaun McGrath: gynaecological oncology
- Dr Jessica McGrath: paediatric rheumatology
Your first appointment
Prior to your initial appointment, please complete the Patient Registration Form [LINK TO FORM].
Please bring your Medicare card to your first visit, along with a copy of your referral and any relevant assessments or investigation results that have not already been faxed or emailed to the practice.
Fees and rebates
Fees, payment, Medicare and private health insurance
Fees and payment
Arc Specialist Care is a private billing practice. Consultation fees vary depending on the specialist and services provided.
Payment is required at the time of your appointment. We accept EFTPOS and credit card payments.
Patients with a valid referral are generally eligible for a Medicare rebate, which covers part of the consultation fee. Our reception team can provide information about consultation fees and expected Medicare rebates when making an appointment.
Additional fees may apply for procedures performed during a consultation. Where applicable, these will be discussed with you.
Surgery and hospital fees
If surgery is recommended, our reception team will provide you with a written estimate of your specialist's surgical fees, including any anticipated out-of-pocket expenses.
Surgical fees vary depending on the procedure and individual circumstances. These fees may exceed the rebates provided by Medicare and private health insurers, resulting in out-of-pocket expenses.
Anaesthetists and surgical assistants charge separately for their services, and additional out-of-pocket expenses may apply.
Hospital fees are separate from your specialist's surgical fees and any associated out-of-pocket expenses. Hospital fees are generally covered by private health insurance, subject to your policy and level of cover. However, additional hospital costs may apply, particularly if you are uninsured or your policy does not fully cover the admission.
We recommend that patients contact their private health insurer before surgery to confirm their level of cover and any applicable out-of-pocket expenses.
Medicare and Medicare Safety Net
Once payment has been finalised, our reception team will submit your claim to Medicare for processing of your rebate.
The Medicare Safety Net can help reduce out-of-pocket costs for eligible out-of-hospital medical services once you reach a specified spending threshold in a calendar year.
If you regularly see specialists, you may benefit from registering as a Medicare Safety Net family so eligible expenses for family members can be combined. Family registration is required even if everyone is listed on the same Medicare card.
For further information, including how to register, please visit the Services Australia Medicare Safety Net website.
Private health insurance
Private health insurance does not cover outpatient specialist consultations.
For patients requiring hospital admission or surgery, private health insurance may cover some or all of the hospital and medical costs, depending on your policy.
We recommend contacting your private health insurer before surgery to confirm your level of cover, including any exclusions, waiting periods, excesses and applicable benefits.
Please be aware that having private health insurance does not necessarily mean that all costs associated with surgery will be covered.
